Enriching the Interests and Talents of our Students!

Our second cycle of Enrichment Clusters for grades 1-5 will focus on our students’ interests and talents. Each student completed an interest inventory in the beginning of the school year. The information from these inventories helped our teachers create their clusters. We launched this new cycle during the week of January 24th. Students are excited to be active participants in learning more about their area of interest. A few examples of our clusters are: Design for Theater Arts, Beginning Origami, Gardening, Art Observation and Recreation, Reader’s Theater, Fitness and Sports, and Green Team. We look forward to another exciting cycle of Enrichment Clusters.

World Explorers Update!

In October, our World Explorers embarked on their 12 week excursion. With a passport in hand, our first through fifth grade students travel to fabulous destinations. During their trip, our travelers have begun to discover many wonderful aspects of each location. Their tour guides have introduced them to the geography of the land, places of interest and began to discuss the culture of their destination. We look forward to learning about the music, dance, art and rich cuisine along our journey!

Bon Voyage Enrichment Clusters!

It seems like just yesterday we were boarding our flights with our passports in our hands for an exciting journey to destinations around the world! As our trip comes to an end, we invited our families to join us for a celebration. Each enrichment cluster hosted an International Feast on Monday, June 14, 2010. Each cluster prepared a dish with their students that represented the destination they “traveled” to. Parents were encouraged to bring in a dish as well. It was a wonderful turnout. Students, teachers, and parents had an opportunity to sample the extraordinary ethnic dishes together. Everyone had fun learning about the wonderful culture and tasting the foods from each destination. I wanted to thank the staff and parents for all of their enthusiasm, hard work and commitment to our students and school.

New Pillar of Character Education

Dear Parents,

We will begin our new theme of Character Education, Responsibility when we return from our Mid Winter Recess. Here are some things you can do to reinforce the message of Responsibility.

• Have a discussion about responsibility in the family. What are your child's responsibilities (other than chores), and what are your responsibilities? Perhaps make a chart. What happens if you or your child are irresponsible? How does taking responsibility make your home a happier place to be?

• Catch your child being responsible. Make sure your child knows he or she has just done something good. Expressing your approval is a powerful way to reinforce good behavior.

• Remember, your child is watching what you do. Be sure to model the kind of responsible behavior you want your child to adopt.

Thank you,
Mrs. Santoro

Enrichment Clusters Feasts

Dear Parents/Guardians,

It seems like just yesterday we were boarding our flights with our passports in our hands for an exciting journey to destinations around the world! As our trip comes to an end, we would like to invite our families and friends to join us for a celebration. Each enrichment cluster will host an International Feast next week. We would like each cluster and their families to prepare a few dishes that represent the destination they “traveled” to. Students, teachers, and parents will have an opportunity to sample the extraordinary ethnic dishes together. Please see the schedule for the feasts and the room locations below. We would like to make this a rich cultural experience for our students and families. During the feast, students will share what they have learned about their destination. We look forward to learning more about the wonderful culture and foods from each destination. Thank you for all of your support and participation.

TADA performances

We are excited to announce that our Third Grade TADA Performance celebrating the music from the Broadway production, Annie, will be on June 2, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in our school auditorium.

Our Fourth Grade TADA Performance celebrating the music from the Broadway production, Footloose, will be on June 2, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. in our school auditorium.

Our Fifth Grade TADA Performance celebrating the music from the Broadway production, Grease, will be on June 2, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. in our school auditorium.

In addition, we are also in need of some assistance in creating a backdrop for our TADA performances. The back drop must display a scene from each of the productions. If you can provide materials (canvas, fabric, paint and paint brushes), or even volunteer your time in creating the backdrop, it will be greatly appreciated. Please contact your child's teacher.
